Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) receives 200,000 new Disability Tax Credit (DTC) applications each year and approximately 9,000 from taxpayers who use the service of a "promoter," a third-party consultant that charges a contingency fee, according to Senator JoAnne Buth at a hearing of the Standing Senate Committee on National Finance on April 1, 2014.
In 2005, there was a significant increase in successful claims due to major reforms of the Income Tax Act.
