Clarification Letters
Your medical practitioner may be asked to complete a follow-up questionnaire requiring additional information regarding the effects of your impairment. Some of the questions may not be appropriate and should be noted as such. It is advisable to be present when he or she completes the questionnaire. Be sure to ask for a copy for your files.
Notice of Determination
You will receive a letter:
- allowing the DTC and in some cases, providing a date when you may have to reapply for the tax credit; or
- disallowing the DTC though the reason may not be clear or even reflect the information provided by your medical practitioner. You may want to appeal this decision by filing an Objection.
If the Notice of Determination refers to additional information received from your doctor and you do not have a copy of the questionnaire, contact CRA and request it. It may or may not provide the basis of rejecting the DTC application. If you are having difficulty accessing a copy of the questionnaire from CRA, contact your MP!
Notice of Redetermination
You will receive a letter:
- allowing your Objection and the DTC, and in some cases, providing a date when you may have to reapply for the tax credit.
Notice of Confirmation
You will receive a letter:
- rejecting your Objection and confirming the Notice of Determination disallowing the DTC.
