Re: Request for the reinstatement of the Disability Advisory Committee

I am asking you to support the Disability Tax Fairness Campaign requesting the Ministers of Finance and National Revenue to reinstate the Disability Advisory Committee (DAC) to help correct serious problems with the administration of the Disability Tax Credit (DTC) by the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA). The DAC was created by the Liberal government in July 2005 and became a powerful voice advocating on behalf of all Canadians with disabilities to improve transparency and ensure tax fairness. Unfortunately, this important committee was disbanded by the new Conservative government in February 2005 and it has become more difficult for me (or family member) to access the DTC.

You may wish to add or include one or all of the following in your letter:

• Provide personal details of your (or family member's) problems accessing the DTC. In addition to the details of the disabling effects of your impairment, provide the reason CRA has provided disallowing the DTC and whether or not it is applicable to your claim.
• Let your MP know if your medical practitioner was also required to complete an questionnaire requesting additional information.
• If you received the DTC in previous years, provide this information and any details whether your impairment has improved, deteriorated or remained the same since the former application had been approved.
• If you have filed a Notice of Objection to appeal the decision with the CRA, provide details along with the date and the follow-up Notice of Confirmation.
• You may want to include copies of documents from CRA with your letter to your Member of Parliament.
• Inform your MP if your doctor has refused to complete Form T2201 for the DTC, providing details of the medical practitioners' objections.

Ask your MP to write to the Ministers of Finance and National Revenue on your behalf and forward copies to you.
